Upcoming Events 2026

Create a Sacred Collage Journal: “Who You Say I Am”. Overnight, on sight. Fri 2/13 to Sat 2/14, $185. Hosted by the Sophia Center, Mt. St. Scholastica Benedictine monastery, Atchison KS. Sign up at http://sophiaspiritualitycenter.org

Who are we? We often see what we dislike in ourselves but God declared of all creation, “It is good!” In this workshop, we claim our identity as ones who are created, loved and redeemed by God. Friday we will each create a journal. Saturday we’ll create collage pages around the theme of our identity.

The materials for collage include mixed media—images, words, decorative paper, stamped prints and embellishments. Art can be a form of prayer, a process to center ourselves and open to experience God. Our focus is the process and not the product, so one need not be an accomplished artist but simply willing to play and engage the materials. Join us for this creative and identity affirming workshop.

Silence and Sabbath: A Retreat for Quiet Rest and Reflection. On sight, in person. 10:00AM to 4:00PM on Sat March 13, 2026. $80 per person. Hosted at Burge Farm, Louisburg KS.

Silence. It is necessary to refill our cups and hear the Spirit of God speaking. Yet little in culture and even church encourages us to practice silence, to rest and listen. Often we don’t know how in need of refreshment we are. When we slow down, there is space to notice and invite Jesus in. He’s been waiting all along! We frequently ask him, “What is your will for me?” Here is an opportunity to listen to the response.

Come for a day retreat to refresh your soul. We will open with scripture and thoughts on silence then practice silence for an extended time. A variety of self directed options will be offered such as lighting candles, reading quotes and scriptures, journaling with prompts, creating art, and prayer walking. We will share lunch together in silence, then end with worship and group reflection on how it was to experience silence and where we encountered God in it.

Finding the Holy in Poetry. Four part Zoom series, 7:00-8:30 PM on Thursdays in April: 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30. $30. Hosted by the Sophia Center, Mt. St. Scholastica Benedictine monastery, Atchison KS. Sign up at http://sophiaspiritualitycenter.org

Poetry distills pieces of truth we have discovered in the living of life. In its succinct, vivid language, poetry gives us space to SENSE the truth before intellectually acknowledging it. Poetry often reveals what is sacred and holy, thus speaking of the divine whether the poet names God or not. April is national poetry month, so join us for a four session series exploring how the divine shines through poetry. Poetry selections will include writings from poets such as Mary Oliver, John O’Donohue, Hafiz, and René Maria Rilke.

Every single soul is a poem. Michael Franti
